This company plays bait and switch. GR quoted me a low initial premium that applied for the first year, then — suprise — they hiked my rates 18% for the next year, and I hadn’t made ANY claims! I immediately switched to Assurant, which doesn’t play games like this.

This company totally plays bait and switch.
I applied for this healthcare, at the very low premium. They would not cover me at the low premium, or any premium.
After they took all my personal information, they decided they would not cover me because I was not in perfect health. I had very slight hypertension.
– They can make more money off of selling my personal information I guess. –

This company is fraudulent. I bought this insurance and pay my premiums on time (I am self-employed.) Now, I need to have a hysterectomy due to severe anemia and uterine fibroids and Golden Rule won’t cover it. They say it is a pre-existing condition. Without the insurance, the cheapest way I can have the surgery is to pre-pay and self-pay and that’s going to be around $15,000-$20,000 which I can’t afford. Trying to appeal, so we’ll see. They wouldn’t even look at the letter my doctor sent. Golden Rule doesn’t seem to live up to its name.

My life was saved because of my insurance policy with Golden Rule. Regardless of whether or not you like paying for insurance, until something else is in place, it’s vital to maintain a policy. I am quite certain that if I did not have insurance, I would be dead today. I had to have a bypass in my brain because of an aneurysm, and for that I was sent to a world-renowned surgeon — in another state. Kudos to Golden Rule.

Husband and I have been with GR for years and have seen premiums raised every year by 11-15%+. We are facing $3300 quarterly premiums this fall, and we’re no where near Medicare age yet. So much for retirement savings. We even have $5000 deductibles, the highest they have. Their “reasonable and customary charges” scam, combined with deductible and 20% co-pay on the 2nd $5000 has forced us to pay $10,000 instead of $6000 for the first $10,000 of allowable charges. So far claims have not been denied. But meds we need, and which our doc demands be “brand necessary” are not covered on the scrip plan. Our doc was a biochemist first, and he knows that the generic is not good. So we pay a lot more. To top it off, they had NO 800 NUMBER for policy holders to call, until just last year. Their greed is bottomless. I’ve heard that 1/3 of their expenses go to making sure they only cover healthy people. We need a plan like Michael Moore talks about - universal mandatory coverage for very low premiums and cut these greedy monsters out of the feeding frenzy they’ve been on for too long. They and BIG PHARMA own our government. I can’t wait to see SICKO.

I totally agree with the first two comments. Absolute bait and switch. We were also quoted a low initial premium, which kept raising at an alarming rate! We finally had to drop this company, but the new one we’re with, Anthem, just raised my premium……one month after I joined them, with no claims. It is absolutely insane.
You cannot be self-employed in the U.S. anymore. Health care has almost destroyed small business, including mine, by making it nearly impossible to obtain and keep adequate coverage. My husband and I are about to close ours down, and one of the main reasons is the cost of keeping insurance. I don’t worry about going to Hell any time soon. There is a long line of health insurance companies and lobbyists ahead of me.

I had hoped that I had found a pot of gold with Golden Rule, but it turned out to be fool’s gold. After completing all forms, questioinares, and submitting my premium payment, I got a call from an underwriter to tell me that the plan I thought I was getting would not cover any of the ailments that I hoped to take care of. But, believe it or not, they would still like to have me as a customer for any future problems!! Of course, they may be covered or may not. Stop the insanity and call Lou Dobbs!!
